How To: Update to Win11 22H2 today (without being insider)

With 22H2 finalized recently and now being in release-preview state, I recently upgraded. If anyone else is interested on how to do it without being an insider, here’s a short tutorial:

  • Step 1: Visit the website https://uupdump.net/, and search for 22H2 https://uupdump.net/known.php?q=22621

  • Step 2: Click on the latest Win11 build and choose the correct architecture (if you have a regular computer, this will be x64)

  • Step 3: Select your language, click Next

  • Step 4: Select the edition(s) the installer should include, e.g. Home. Only include the editions you want to install, or otherwise you’ll download unneccessary updates

  • Step 5: On the next page, leave everything as it is (Download/Convert to ISO & include updates), click Create Download Package.

  • Step 6: Extract the downloaded package in a folder you created on a drive with plenty of space (unsure how much you actually need, but ideally 2-3x the size of the download package, so around 7gb). You need that space because the update files will be downloaded and executed there, e.g D:/Win11Update.

  • Step 7: In the folder where you extracted the files, run the file uup_download_windows.cmd as administrator. When the cmd-files open, click any key to start the download process. It will fetch the files from the official microsoft servers, so this process is safe. Depending on your connection, this can take anywhere between 15 and 60 minutes (or even longer). When it’s done, you will be prompted to exit with “0”.

  • Step 8: After everything is downloaded, there will now be an ISO-File in that folder, it will look something like this: 22621.1.220506-1250.NI_RELEASE_CLIENTCORE_OEMRET_X64FRE_DE-DE.iso. Right-click it and click Mount.

  • Step 9: There will now be a “DVD”-Drive with the mounted image in your explorer. Simply double-click to run it, and the update-setup will appear.
